Ankle fracture solutions include the DTX Medial Distal Tibia plates and DFX™ Distal Fibula plates. The implants are part of the comprehensive MaxLock Extreme™ system, with Tribrid™ Technology for fixed angle, variable angle, and non-locking capability.

DFX™ Distal Fibula & DTX Distal Tibia Plates

General Information

The DFX Distal Fibula plate is fully contoured to match the anatomical contour of the fibula’s lateral malleolus for fixation of Weber type A, B and C fractures. Better anatomical fit equals more secure fracture fixation and return to natural bony anatomy and function.

The DTX Medial Distal Tibia Plate is an anatomically contoured plate that is designed to sit anteriorly in order to avoid impingement of the posterior tibial tendon across a range of patients.

DTX Distal Tibia Plate

  • The plates have a minimal profile with localized thickening for stabilization
  • The plate is designed for fixation of distal tibia fractures requiring more stability of certain oblique and vertical fractures of the medial malleolus
  • Screw hole design placement:
    • The distal screw hole cluster is designed to be divergent to straddle the syndesmosis and run parallel to the joint line.
    • The metaphyseal flare screw has a distal angulation to allow manipulation of distal fragments.
    • The metaphyseal screws feature converging screws, utilizing
      biplanar fixation, to increase rotational stability.

DTX Medial Malleolous Plate:

  • Designed as an alternative to traditional lag screw fixation for transverse and some oblique medial malleolus fractures.
  • Low profile anatomic design to securely fit the medial aspect of the distal tibia while minimizing tissue irritation and providing valuable construct stability.
  • Compression can be achieved through the plate's compression slot or use of a lag technique in distal locking holes.

DFX Distal Fibula Plates

  • Four strategically placed distal screw holes allow capture of most distal fracture fragments in typical Weber B or C fractures.
  • Translation slots permit angle & position variability for implantation of syndesmotic screws
  • Decreasing thickness from the proximal to distal portion of the plating system helps to minimize irritation with limited soft tissue coverage.

All plates contain Tribrid™ Technology which can accommodate non-locking, fixed angle locking, and variable angle locking screws to provide fixation without compromise.


The MaxLock Extreme Universal Module is indicated for use in adult or pediatric patients as indicated for pelvic, small and long bone fracture fixation and fixation of bones that have been surgically prepared (osteotomy) for correction of deformity or arthrodesis. Indication for use include internal fixation of the tibia, fibula, femur, humerus, ulna, radius and bones in the hand, wrist, foot and ankle.
